universe mode is awful now, it was okay in SVR 2011 and just went downhill from there. today, it's completely broken (and I'm not exaggerating). 2K are fags and removed everything that made it fun.

I'd say Season mode in HCTP and SYM was the best

ya, universe mode only gets worse over time. 2k14 is still meh but once you get to 2k24, it's just shamelessly bad. they even removed a whole lot of features, I don't even know why it's there at this point (probably just to scam plp)
