I just found out about a week ago that my cable package has a TNA channel. I've been binge watching this shit the past few days, and now that I've watched over 40 hours, I have to ask why this brand is not as big as WWE? The talent during the 00s looked solid, and they were not afraid of showing bitches in bra and panties dancing to entertain us.

I have to know what went wrong?

We didn't know how good we had it. TNA was considered laughably bad at the time, and most people thought it was super lame that most of the guys they pushed were ex-wwe guys. Also didn't help that >>16044631 is right and they often fucked up every interesting storyline with a random russo swerve. That one tine when joe turned heel amd helped angle win was when I realized the show would never be great.
However compared to today, TNA looks amazing.

One of the best aspects of TNA, especially when compared to AEW, is the great and unique look of their shows from 2005 to when they initially ditched the six sided ring. The lighting, the intimacy of the arena, the colors, the tunnels, the promo packages, the gimmicks, and even the backstage skits. It had its own identity. My favorite part of the presentation was the ace handheld cam footage they'd use for promotional footage and titantrons, that shit still looks sick and gritty to this day. The production people did their jobs well.
They also had the greatest commentary team of all time, Mike Tenay and Don West, who would enthusiastically sell you whatever was happening on the show no matter how nonsensical it might have been. A sharp contrast to Excalibur's robotic delivery.
It's a shame that it was so horribly managed for its entire tenure.

Spike TV refused to advertise TNA; that's why it never really caught on despite having a great roster. Any advertising had to come out of TNA's budget. The only time Spike spent any money to promote TNA was one time when they had a billboard in Times Square to advertise Hulk Hogan coming to TNA.

I remember back in the 2010s Jeff Hardy had left WWE for TNA, and seeing all of these YouTube comments complaining about how Jeff Hardy retired. All of these diehard Jeff Hardy fans had no fucking clue Jeff was in TNA. That's how little TNA was promoted on Spike. It was literally just there to fill a hole in the schedule after WWE left. They didn't care about improving the ratings and getting more eyes on the product. When the TV deal was expiring, Spike barely bothered to negotiate because they were already planning to replace TNA with UFC programming.

This happened constantly. The old guys would put h horrible angles like aces and eights that killed all the heat in the company, there are many examples of that including weird rip offs of the four horsemen and attempts to copy the new blood angle from wcw.

Yes, this is important. One of the biggest problems in aew right now is that they look like a bad WWE copycat show. They did have a unique look at the start and Collision had one for the first couple months of it's existence too. Tony pit a stop to that. They're too obsessed with WWE to be aew. That same issue hit tna more than once.

Aces and Eights was fine. It just happened at the same time of peak "LOLTNA" posting so everyone pretended like it was the worst storyline of all time (most of which didn't even watch TNA in the first place). TNA booked way worse shit than that at various points in its history.

Tony literally hired ex-WWE production staff to stylize the look of his shows. Even the original Dynamite theme was purposefully meant to sound like something Jim Johnston would have wrote for Raw or Smackdown. Tony talks about AEW in terms of WWE. He's obsessed with this "challenger brand" idea that someone at WBD explained to him like a teenager who heard one Kant quote and made it their lifestyle, thinking they're intellectual as a result.
Every aspect of AEW as a company is a copy of WWE right now. Some of the wrestlers are able to overcome that but the booking is so bad that it's becoming harder and harder for them. It doesn't help that the top of the card are all dudes having mid-life crises or guys trying to keep their spot by being nice to Tony.
The production is unforgivable though.

It's not so much that he's trying to be WWE-lite, but that it's the only form of wrestling tv he knew well, and he copies their formula (as well as later WCWs) because he cannot see any other way of putting together a wrestling show. Listen to any of his interviews and it's clearly apparent that he doesn't know jack shit about japanese wrestling, or that his ECW fandom doesn't go further than simple markydom, and so on.

WWE wasn't as hated at the time. They had a pretty loaded roster so even if you didn't like their style it would still be worth watching. The production value was insanely better than everyone else too.

This leaves TNA with a small slice of the pie. Pretty much like AEW is now. The people who watch them are either people who just watch all wrestling or a smaller percentage who hate WWE and want an alternative.

There were a lot of former WCW and ECW fans who WANTED something different so they tried TNA but it was really just a WWE clone most of the time. Then when they hired Hogan all of their hardcore fans felt betrayed and abandoned them.

I don't hate TNA or anything, but if you look at things objectively, it really didn't competently fill any of the niches it needed to. They needed to be pushing guys like Joe, Styles, Daniels, Roode, and Aries hard from the start and focusing on more athletic wrestling instead of being a frankenstein's monster of WWF, ROH, ECW, and WCW castoffs.

As much as I make fun of TNA, I gotta admit Angle jumping ship got me very close to taking it seriously and getting into it
I saw that famous clip of his debut, when him and Samoa Joe (who I never even heard of before that day, yes I'm that much of an E-drone) had that face-off. I'll never forget that shot of Joe's bloodied face behind Angle as he was celebrating
Why the hell I didn't actually start watching after that, I have no idea. But they ALMOST got me that time

From the start until the Hogan/Bischoff era, that was Jarrett. It's why TNA was as big as it was. Russo has good ideas, but he needs someone else to reign him in.

Basically, just mismanagement. The Jarrett/Russo relationship made it great. If Dixie helped manage that, TNA probably takes over WWE. Sadly, she brought in Hogan and Buschoff and the rest is history.

It was a fusion of the NWO and Sons of Anarchy. A lot of stuff in wrestling is just a copy of pop culture. Mad Max/Road Warriors stuff happens all the time. The story would have been OK if it hadn't been focused around Bully Ray and Brooke Hogan and if they didn't throw Bischoff's son into the group. Focusing on Mr. Anderson and Tito Ortiz and either Ivelisse or Leva would have been better. I stopped watching around this time. The Hogan shit with his daughter was stupid.

Actually it's the opposite.
TNA had non-WWE guys worth pushing. AEW's only hope is to push WWE guys, all their homegrown talent is complete dog shit.

Correct. Which is why this storyline was the downfall of TNA. It's was a mediocre idea made even worse by making it a vehicle for the Hogan/Bischoff "kilq" members. As just another story, it wasn't bad. But for about a year, it was THE story.
