At the surface level, he seems like a guy who sold his soul to the devil and has just been hollowed out by his own ambition.

But when he talks to people, he becomes very genuine and relatable. That could be fake too but I don't know, man. When you hear him on Stern or something, he just seems like a normal guy.

Like the other guy said, whenever he starts talking with people he seems normal, pretty chill, and a touch weird. When he's "in character" doing promotional stuff he feels like you describe--nothing behind the eyes, all schtick without a real person underneath.
The way other wrestlers talk about him/the stories I've read about him make him seem like a genuinely good dude who is almost always in PR mode in front of the camera

Exactly yeah. I get a big sense of that. Like there's no soul to his eyes. It sounds so weird and tinfoily to say but I don't know. We all saw the guy on tv for 20+ years. There was a notable difference

I'm glad you said this too because that's the sense I get with it. Granted after all the Make a Wish kids I'm sure you've got to be calloused on an entirely different level. But it does come across very calculated. Like there's never any actual vulnerability from him no matter what he's talking about

Of course if he is a purely ambitious, emotionless sociopath, he would be able to fake his way through that stuff without feeling anything and it's a great way to make people think you're a great guy.

I think that's maybe where it starts. Or if it's just a way he had to (unironically no jokes) cope with it. Because god yeah man. That'd scar me just to have to go in and do once. No matter what kind of positive spin you try and put on it. That shit's sad. To do the numbers he's done is insane. I'm sure you have to be able to shut that side of yourself down while still being able to convincingly appear warm and comforting in order to pull that off. I damn sure don't envy the guy in that regard at all

Don't even get me started with that guy. Any benefit of the doubt I'd throw Cena's way is completely off the table with him. He reeks of insincerity in every smiley nice guy shit he does.
