He made some major mistakes:
1) Signing people like Omega, The Bucks, Sonny Kiss, Nyla Rose, Joey Janela, Orange Cassidy and others who various groups were either going to love or hate with no in-between.
2) Pushing all kinds of tribal stuff by saying, "AEW would never do ____" and taking all kinds of shots at WWE.
3) Banning Hulk Hogan, doing Fight for the Fallen, using Nyla Rose and making other political type of moves.
4) Not doing anything about his hardcore fans banning and attacking people who didn't like the show (and even joining in on it sometimes)
5) Allowing Meltzer to act as his own PR spokesman. It got AEW a lot of coverage but Meltzer is one of the reasons people hate AEW so much.
Like you said, he should have been a likeable guy for people on the IWC. He's doing what we all wanted to do, but he made some major mistakes along the way. You never go after the fans and you don't get political.
