I was in a backstage position in AEW until recently which made me privy to some of Tony's private affairs. Namely his obsession with Daniel Garcia.
After studying the Owen Hart incident and seeing the statistic revenue generating power of John Huber's death, Tony came up with a plan to kill a wrestler in a way where it couldn't possibly be thought to be his fault, but Tony's not a monster. He couldn't do it to anyone he knows, even if he doesn't like them. He needed someone specifically designated for the task. Someone with no friends or family. No prospects. Someone he found morally repugnant and obnoxious. That's how he found Daniel Garcia. Tony's plan was simple. Get a guy massively over, then have him die tragically and young. No wife or kids to worry about fighting for Garcia's estate. Just cash in on it with memorial after memorial. Tribute after tribute. Tony Khan's James Dean. Tony's hubris was his undoing, as per usual, though, because he didn't consider that someone that meets his qualifications for an ethical murder victim would also be hard for anyone to get over, nonetheless booker of the year Tony Khan. So, now he just has to wait.
Certainly... Certainly THIS will be the year Daniel Garcia gets over... Certainly...
