>>16240029The problem with Meltzer marks is that they've lost touch with reality but with good reasoning.
There's an old Eddie Murphy joke about how if you're starving to death and you ate a plain old biscuit, you'd think it was the greatest and tastiest thing you'd ever eaten. Similarly, Meltzer was the first person in wrestling who trained as a journalist since it was dropped from the press. Therefore he was better than the bloggers so earned a reputation as fantastic. In reality, he's a poor journalist with a massive arrogance about his work and legacy, the quality of which is consistently poor. His prose is awful and autistic, his fact checking is little to none and his analysis is too often wrong. If he weren't in the wrestling space, he'd be a failed dropout working on a local paper. Meltzer often quoted Defords opinion on him, also forgetting to mention that Deford was one of his best friends who helped him get his first job and subsequently they became related. Nobody else has ever cared about Meltzer.
With that said, although his skills as a journalist and writer are lacking, he's a huge influencer on the wrestling business since the 2000s. Sometimes Dave says things and they come true because Dave said them rather than them being true - the ascension of the Young Bucks is a great example of this.
So he's a complicated figure. There's a cult around him who wrongly proclaim he has great skills, but there's a cult against him that wrongly claims he has stupid opinions on wrestling.
