The current indie audiences are made up of normies that Ticketmaster jewry priced out of affording bigger live events. I remember hearing an indie wrestler on a podcast talk about how they meet people at shows who go to their local indie but follow no other wrestling.
People look at all the GCW bullshit flopping and think it's representative of the indie scene as a whole, but the feds you've never heard of that cater to local families and drunk college kids are doing as well as ever.
