Anyone else feel like Hanger gaslit the fuck out of the wrestling community when he got this dude over?

I feel like I enjoyed Hangman v Swerve as a program, not Swerve. Everything he's done out with the Hangman matches and promos has been a little meh and I don't get the Bobbo feud they're running with now.

I don't think he's terrible but he's definitely a strong midcard act at best. Hangman definitely gave the impression that he was a main event calibre talent but only with his top tier character work and the psycho spots he came up with

His success in the company is less due to his natural talent and more due to the fact that he was willing to step up and present himself like a star when no one else had any interest in it. People love to compare Swerve to other black wrestlers, but I think he's AEW's Seth Rollins without a doubt.
He's not naturally charismatic, is very awkward in the ring, and has proven not to be a drawing act when presented as THE top guy. But he can play the role of a main eventer, he'll take the bumps, he'll nail the flashy entrances and wacky outfits, and he's got a catchphrase. I can't not see Seth in him.

I really dislike how face turns generally work in AEW
most of the time wrestlers turn face because they get too popular and start getting cheered by the crowd
Or what happened with Ospreay, who came in as a heel but was treated as a babyface and as the face of the company from day 1, was in a heel faction and just left for a while before them turning on him months later
turning MJF face was also one of the dumbest booking decisions I've seen

Yep, it was evident that there waa no actual plan for Swerve's face run and he was just sent out for ten minute promos with jack shit to talk about, then beatdown after beatdown, then losing to a face who is ending his career soon, ensuring that people cheer for you to lose.

I genuinely think it would’ve done wonders for swerve & the company long term if he ended Danielson’s career at all in for heel heat. Him not being able to shake being a psychopathic thug & then joining up with MVP & Lashley after denying the fan favorite babyface with Hanger eventually taking the title was more round arc than this shit with Moxley

I still think the Moxley turn and plastic bag thing was the right direction because it was a genuine payoff to a stable that was mostly disappointing and directionless throughout its existence. Where they went wrong was turning it into another "company takeover" angle. I don't care about anyone "defending" the "soul" of AEW at this point. The endgame is ultimately Darby Allin avenging his friend who he saw get viciously betrayed and stretchered off in their home state. I Death Riders to be the NWO and don't need the guys in catering to band together against them.

Easy middle ground & we can get both.

Moxley’s entire schtick doesn’t require the title at all, you already had the takeover storyline with the Elite that went nowhere & that was much more interesting. Everyone’s just waiting for Darby to go over or Shane to debut. No actual buzz
