They're not selecting for outcast NEETs with a fuck-you attitude trying to make money anymore, nor are they looking for dadbods or other shoot tough guys.
They want sparkly acrobats and football players who are a good fit in the locker room and know how to obey the coach instead of having an individual opinion.
With all the love for Maxxine Dupri, she's the perfect case in point. That girl is a model-esque cheerleader by trade who transitioned into pro wrestling to be a manager, and someone got the bright idea to try and make her wrestle.
Maybe that was a rib, maybe that was a bit of a giggle. Maybe it was part of the plan to take athletes from other sports and mould them into the shape the WWE wants.
And in her case, despite being sexy lady and hot and flexible, she's been atrocious in the ring more than she's been decent. At least she's leaning towards decent now.
TL;DR: the WWE are tunnelvisioning on 1 type of performer when they should be keeping their eyes open for anyone that looks anywhere near a draw of any kind.
