I mock AEW and Tony Khan constantly for being shitty and a shitty businessman respectively but this is a great change.
Tarped arenas with 8 people in it looks terrible and they've needed to play small buildings for a while. Anyone with even the slightest clue on wrestling understands that the audience is the third character in a match, and when they're flat or sparse then everything dies.
Smaller venues means a more packed, more hardcore, more engaged audeicne. Yes I'm sure I'll meme on it in the future but this is a smart move. In fact it's such a smart move that I'm convinced that Tony Khan had nothing to do with it and probably actively fought against it.
