It doesn't matter that Phil got their best ratings. Tony did catastrophic damage to his personal reputation and to the company brand by giving such extreme leeway to a talent incapable of meeting the personal and physical demands of his push. He alienated himself to both the fans and the lockerroom to a level worthy of Dixie Carter. All for the sake of a man he was warned in advanced was unstable, ill-tempered, egotistical, and manipulative. Who left him for his competition anyway.
I hope he turns it around, but Tony really is a profoundly unlikable dope. The opposite of the man you'd want to succeed.
