you obvs dont see the pipeline of watching the match and deciding to pick it up since its AEW ppvs are sold on youtube now. A bunch of eyes all in the same place. This is a much better idea than making people pay 50 first when theyve maybe never seen a AEW match

Well you're wrong. They originated during the 90s iirc, and usually involved videopackages and announcers giving you the hard sell to eke out some final buys from people either half interested or on the fence. Idk when they started putting matches on them but there that's why they exist.
