>>16354180>>16355323While the spot itself look contrived and inorganic, you can see how Rey and Eddie did it better.
1. The white guy assists the lucha up on the ropes more clearly. Rey looks like he leaps unassisted
2. The NXT-lucha is on the ropes too long making it look like a "opponent waits while i do my monkey spot"-spot. To the naked eye it might almost look as long as Rey. But Rey just standing on the ropes merely half a second shorter than lucha guy makes it organic and more "realistic"
3. Last but least - and this is the most important thing - the opponent just stands there until he receives the DDT. This is what's making the whole spot fall apart. What does Eddie do? Look at him taking quick steps forward as if he's going to start to run away. It shows that he doesn't linger he and Rey are in constant motion doing that spot. Eddie attempts to escape from the DDT. THIS is what makes it such a classic. When modern wrestling tries to emulate classic spots they just do the moves instead of making it look "alive" with body language and micro movements and expressions that brings immersion and makes it look like an actual wrestling match
