When Tony was first laying the foundations for AEW he contacted Meltzer for advice on people to hire. A lot of the early backstage staff in AEW were guys recommended by Meltzer. Cornette, being a long time friend of Meltzer, was highly recommended for a too level backstage job. Cornette declined and basically told Tony he was an idiot, and that his dream promotion of flippy midget workrate masturbation sessions would never make money, and he thought that AEW would go under within a year or two as he assumed that, like every other promotion ever made, Tony was interested in being profitable.
This hurt Dave, and Dave began taking constant shots at Cornette calling him out of touch and uneducated about modern wrestling and what will draw, which eventually led to their friendship falling apart.
What people mistake about Dave is that he is a delusional stan for AEW solely out of his love for bangerino matches and the like, when in actuality his obsession and insistence on AEW being a massive success is that, like the true hyper autist he is, Dave is simply holding a grudge from years ago and determined to prove he was actually right all along.
