Absolutely. That attitude is a holdover from a bygone era and the average fan today doesn't care nearly as hard about height, especially in a post-UFC landscape.
The problem is that a lot of modern cruiserweights have a presentation that doesn't suit them or they don't work to their strengths. But that's not a problem exclusive to cruiserweights.
