A top player has his own crew of people, his own trainers, nutritionists, etc. that they split their pay with and almost all of them are connected back to the MLB. They then pay a portion to whatever the sport's players union is, which is usually connected to the actual league itself. They also usually have an agent, who is connected to the league, then they buy houses or get cars from agents or dealers who are recommended to them by people from the league, who get a referall kickback.
Their insurance and other shit is also usually set up by the league as well. A top star walks away with nowhere near what they were supposedly paid.
Same with music. Label pays upfront to make a cd, artist has to pay them back, including studio catering and all other expenses. Artist pays manager who works for label anyway, pays agents, buys houses and jewelry through people their managers introduced to them, etc
