TNA was never a smarks promotion even when they signed shindie darlings from ROH. It was more so when Hogan, Russo and Bischoff joined in. Then the WCW legends and Angle took the spotlight, TNA was always catered to normies.

They kind of did at one point around the time of the AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe vs Christopher Daniels feud, and after they signed Kurt Angle, but most of the diehard smarks were all in on ROH and PWG at the time, or the weebs that only watched NJPW and insisted all American wrestling was trash.
