I wonder if "people didn't really watch a lot of it" is true because it's certainly not for me.
In 2023 alone I watched all of WCW Saturday Night and all the Nitros from the Scott Hall debut through 2000.

This year I watched SMW stuff and I rewatched the first 10 survivor series.
I have also been watching all the Saturday Night's Main Events in preparation for this one coming up.

Feel like I watch quite a bit of the older content. But I guess zoomers aren't. In fact I know they aren't. Watched a wrestling quiz about managers where these two zoomers didn't know Slick or Grand Wizard. It hurt my soul. And they only knew Paul Ellering for Final Testament. They also didn't know who the Twin Towers were or the Bodydonnas.

Fuck, I hate zoomers and their lack of interest in history or knowledge in any subject.

Pretty sure it's only because NBC/Universal still have a year left on contract. Meaning that everything but RAW is staying on Peacock.

And might stay on Peacock depending on if NBC keeps the rights to the classic programming. Because Netflix only has rights to RAW.
Nick Khan said he respects the rights on incumbent partners when asked about the library.

Got a feeling Dave is wrong again as always. The library isn't disappearing it's just not going to Netflix

I'm trying to find a source because I remember listening/reading about it years ago, but the territory archive and all those other indy promotions they had deal with like Evolve and whoever else they had just flat out didn't have any demand. It was by far the least watched shit on the Network, even behind they're daily news programs like the bump or any of those Countdown shows.
At the end of the day, the Vault is where this shit is going until they can find a way to get one of their partners to pay for it. Once somebody bites on it, they'll just hide all the videos and make the channel inactive.

Pretty sure you haven't seen the WWE Vault youtube channel and are confusing it for the main WWE YouTube channel.

The WWE Vault channel had already put out stuff that isn't even on Peacock, stuff that wasn't even on the Network back in the day.
They've put up full episodes of Shotgun Saturday Night, including the famous one that has Undertaker vs Hunter Hearst Helmsley.
The literally just put up Abyss vs Eddie Colin in Puerto Rico. Which is the first match WWE had ever shown or acknowledged Abyss and the even had Joseph Park do an intro for it.
They are releasing infamous dark matches like the Nasty Boys vs Drew McIntyre & Dave Taylor from SmackDown 2006.

I don't actually watch any of the new stuff. I am paying full price and all my viewing is retro stuff. Current WWE I watch the TV shows when other stuff is on commercial and the match/characters seem interesting but I can't remember last time I watched a PPV live. But I do enjoy in the middle of the day watching a comfy 45 minute episode of something from the 80s or 90s

They charge outrageous amounts to see their shows here and then rub on your face how much money they extorted from you, hell you can't even see WWE legally in my country but 20 years ago you could watch Raw, Smackdown and even the PPV's for FREE if you had cable.
This international push is working for them because they're banking on a core audience that grew up watching wrestling 20+ years ago but I can see it dwindling when most kids don't even know wrestling exists.

They absolutely will release batches and create false hype by promising famous eras. You'll get 2 months of 1999 RAWS and then subsequent drops over the course of years. Netflix wants people to never stop watching and they will leverage the WWE library by dripfeeding marks and boomers with nostalgiac episodes and PPVs.

During the Monday Night Wars documentary Bischoff was coping his loss saying the positive thing about WWE winning the MNW was that Vince is a wrestling historian and respects the industry and would take good care of it's (WCW and wrestling as a whole) history. well at least there's a lot of old shit to be found elsewhere online these days. I especially liked how they recently (past year) put a bunch of Coliseum Videos on Peacock. Also this might be part of why they've picked up airing old school stuff / unreleased stuff on the WWE Vault youtube in recent months

I did. Network in 2014 was insane. No convoluted deals splitting content between multiple services. Just an ever expanding library including PPVs. Knew it couldn't last but what a ride.
