I don't know if you watched AEW pre pandemic, but that 100% was the criticism the angle was meant to avoid. Which ended up with Cody taking the midcard belt in a company founded on the belief that he was bigger than the midcard. The arbitrary lockout was dumb, but not without reasoning.
