Inamura seems to be on wwe radar. Surprisingly, he can speak basic english when he had that promo in nxt. Also there was a story of Henare rejecting wwe. So wwe is still interested in both companies.

As for aew, seems like their target is Gabe Kidd and the other wardogs. Possibly Shingo as well

I think there is an upper limit to the number of Japanese guys that can be poached. You can't put seven japs who don't speak English on the same TV show.
Tony has really only poached one Japanese guy from NJPW (Shibata doesn't count, they didn't want to use him anyway) but it seemed pretty fucking obvious before Okada bounced that they were relying entirely on him to be the mountain for the new dudes to climb and their plans got fucked hard. Now they're basically working from scratch trying to get people to take these guys seriously

On the other hand, it's nearly impossible to find and keep good white guys now. Even when it was just WWE the best ones would often go there eventually, now with AEW around too anyone with any promise at all is getting contracts thrown at them and you're left giving Debbido Finray the Bullet Club

The decision to merge the Heavyweight and Intercontinental belts was an outright disaster that even their impending serfdom to AEW couldn't touch. You don't just merge a title with that prestige to appease Kota Ibushi who is going to KWAB himself out of wrestling in a year and NJPW hasn't been able to make a secondary title on the same level that lets them build a new star since then. Wrestle Kingdom has a guy who will be with AEW the moment his free agency hits and goddamn Shota Umino fighting for their world title in the main event, it's that bleak

Since 2019 AEW poached; Omega, The Bucks, Cody, Okada, Osperay, White, Juice, Aussie Open, and Shibata.

Since 2019 guys like Naito, Ibushi, Shingo, and Tanahashi are too broken down to deliver what fans expect.

COVID was a huge set back since it limited gajin travel and crowds. When they were able to return properly AEW had already filled the niche NJPW previously held in the eyes of western fans.

Vince leaving WWE and HHH taking over, improved the quality of WWE significantly. Giving fans even less reason to seek out NJPW.

Japanese wrestling can recover, but it will take a while to build up a new crop of stars.

I keep watching it across a variety of companies anyway because, I mean, surely it's got to get good again eventually but I hope something improves soon.
Don't see WWE making inroads in Japan though. New Japan is still better and more in line with what fans there expect in a pro-wrestling company.
