His trouble isn't getting booed either, like that other anon said, it's that he's getting mostly lukewarm/lackluster reactions regularly and that he's clearly not taking off as the babyface star that they might've hoped that he would turn into. He's going through the motions, he's doing all of the Tanahashi stuff, going above and beyond, doing a spot with a kid in the crowd every match but it's not getting the same kind of responses that Tanahashi got.
They have to do something with him and I think making him a heel is a great way to convert on his potential. And I say this as the guy who got called a Shota apologist regularly in /njpw/
