Is the “E-drone” human? Many have wondered throughout the years.
There are a handful of ways to consider the matter, but I prefer to look at it through the lens of aesthetics. By one definition, humanity is to some important degree contingent on the appreciation of art, as brute beasts have no artistic capacity.
The E-drone, however, has no concept of art, because he is functionally soulless. It's not his fault: he literally cannot comprehend that a wrestler might prioritize taking personal satisfaction in his craft over being as rich as possible and as famous as possible. The concept of indie music, indie movies, indie books is inconceivable to him. He has no spark of life inside him, so he must fill his empty shell with meaningless mass-produced content. McDonalds, Marvel, WWE -- it's all the same thing to him, and serves the same role: endlessly fueling an utterly purposeless machine. You shouldn't look down on him, in the same way that you wouldn't look down a dung beetle for not appreciating Shakespeare. His mind is a blank canvas, but he has no paint to paint with, so all that remains is a dark void, empty save for the echoing of chants and catchphrases. It is fruitless, and even unethical, to expect humanity from the E-Drone, because you cannot seek humanity in something that is fundamentally not human.
