>>16562088It’s been forever since I watched any of their documentaries but I recall the awa documentary implying they were dead in the water after Hogan left, but in reality Rick Martel of all people drew some of the biggest houses they ever had right after hogan left.
The death of the territories being a result of everyone just really loving the WWF and not that they bought up all the talent and fucked with everyone’s tv deals. Most territory fans stopped watching wrestling and hated WWF. They were not won over.
WWF was a victim of WCW’s underhanded tactics. Ignoring that they didn’t really steal any talent from the WWF. Hogan was already retired trying to get into acting and Savage and Piper were forced into an early retirement. The outsiders and Bret left cause WCW offered them more, same thing Vince did in the 80s.
Also their relationship with Heyman has lead them to over inflate ECW. You’ll never hear them mention how every genius idea heyman had is awfully fucking close to a storyline Eddie Gilbert came up with in continental. And while I agree WCW would not have signed Sandman or Mikey Whipwreck without having seen their work in ECW, they did not poach Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero from them. WCW had been working with and even co-promoting with new Japan all throughout the 90s, ECW did not put them on WCW’s radar.
