And there are ALWAYS more people watching at home. That doesn’t mean the crowd in the arena shouldn’t get a show. Attending crowd are always catered to because 1) they paid to actually attend in person and 2) they don’t have a computer screen or tv directly in front of them so they get to enjoy premium entertainment as part of the show.
The people at home are already prepped. And I’m sure much of them would prefer a match to a commercial.

I watch these preshows too and yes, there are promos, segments and interviews. The preshow is not just matches and the main show does get built in the preshow as well. The commentators don’t talk over these portions but do talk about the line up during preshow matches primarily because they are still doing last minute selling of the event.
