It makes complete kayfabe sense. You simply can't have a wrestling promotion and expect to stop all interference in every match forever, but it's reasonable that the boss can lay down the hammer for this one single tournament and make it clear to the roster they'll be fired or Ricky Starks'd if they try any of that shit during it.
