By all accounts, New Japan should have died during the pandemic. It wasn't drawing in enough money to pay its workers. Tony gave New Japan a chance to bring in extra money while clearing some of its payroll and ensuring it wouldn't jump to WWE.
AEW sucks and Tony is a shit booker but I haven't seen anything that convinces me we'd still have New Japan if Tony hadn't basically bailed it out. It sucks watching New Japan be AEW's cuck but it's going to survive and once it's back on its feet it will turn the tables because Tony is fucking in over his head. But he probably did save the company.
