Sadly the same, but Punk would've had more acting opportunities through WBD.
Do people even remember Punk in AEW? Nearly all of his time he was busy making amends to the business by putting people over. From the beginning he was dropping names he'd willingly work, and lose to: Hobbs, "Send Hook"
Whomever was writing for Punk in AEW fucking sucked. This was a huge part of the problem because the Hangman shit was a work turned "shoot" only because Hangman was trying to inject some life into the story (without Punk knowing, but we all know the story).
It's better with MJF because he's just a better dance partner with better acting chops. But it would've never been good with anyone outside of the WWE school of acting, and without good writers things would've gone from bad to worse very quickly.
Dunno about lately but the one thing to turn me off of AEW from the very beginning was a lack of storytelling week to week. Maybe it's better now but if they couldn't pull that off with someone like Punk, I can't imagine it without him. This makes Punk vs MJF the only memorable feud for me storyline wise.
