Wrestling is 100% real. It's been real all along. Wrestling companies only claim it's fake to get it past nanny state censors who would shut it down if they knew what it really was. The fights and stories have traditionally been all real. In order to maintain the illusion, they occasionally pull punches and do faked spots and botches so people will think it's all retarded.
Part of the reason AEW sucks is that Tony is such a mark that he thinks it's fake so he insists that his workers do more of this stuff than has historically been the case. He also insists on pushing dumb fake stories. Some of the wrestlers like the Bucks and Okada like the fake shit and push for as much of it as possible because they think it's ironic and love the easy paychecks while others are there to actually fight and they get annoyed.
