It was Tony who was determined to avoid any kind of confrontation. Punk was literally placed on a new show with other people who Tony wanted to avoid confrontation with and Punk decided the best course of action was to constantly shit on Hanger and tease a match with the Elite that Tony was never going to book.

Punk retired from wrestling after walking out of the company, slated everyone backstage in any interview that would have him, tried to weasel his way back in while telling WWE guys to "suck a blood money covered dick in Saudi Arabia", came to AEW to shit on all the guys backstage again, bitched about how WWE made him ill and destroyed his body with poor healthcare, then subsequently went back. He didn't even have to do that. Just ignore the guy, have Tony mediate between them if need be. Getting Colt fired and replaced with his boy Ace Steel is what started all the mess with Punk and the locker room in the first place.
