Companies coast on the success of the past all the time.
WWE is doing better financially than it was 20 years ago but the product is dogshit in comparison and viewership is dropping. People cling on for a bit because they want it to get better. But they grow disillusioned if the product continues to stink and start tuning out.
I want New Japan to succeed but I see it going through rough times for the foreseeable future. They had a lot invested in Okada and he took his ball and ran before he paid the company back for putting him over like they did. You need stars to establish new stars and New Japan doesn't have any that are in prime shape.
