It's been a mess since then because of covid and other factors. NJPW tried to milk the 2 night thing for a variety of reasons with NJPW's 50th anniversary and doing crossover shows with NOAH
this year Jan 4 fell on a Saturday again but the idea of a 2 day WK has already lost its luster.
Wrestle Dynasty might have had more appeal if it was explicitly an AEW vs NJPW show and these "special challenge matches" had actual stakes, like a Raw vs SD Survivor Series. Even the NJPW vs NOAH shows had more heat to them.
There's a long history to "NJPW vs (promotion)" at the Jan 4 Dome event dating all the way back to the first one
But Gedo, Bushiroad, Tanahashi portray AEW to their native audience in a way that the fans don't like and the fans don't show up for it
