Forbes: 2025 “is the year AEW overtakes WWE”

No.16652224 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
From the print version of Forbes, available this week:
>”There is no denying that WWE has been on a legendary hot streak of profitability, outclassing even the heights of the Attitude Era. But there is one elephant in the room that WWE executives have been discussing lately - Donald J Trump.”
>”It’s no secret that Donald Trump’s plan for the economy will hurt the average American, doubly so for those below the poverty line and those who rely on government subsidies to survive. A study reported on by wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer showed how stark the conditions are for many WWE fans. They are the forgotten ones of the United States; poor, uneducated, and almost completely reliant on the kindness of others to survive. Ironically, many of them may have also voted for Trump, causing their own downfall.”
>”Forbes can exclusively report that WWE has created a ‘Trump task force’ to help combat the economic damage the company is expected to endure, with the team suggesting higher prices, more dynamic pricing for events, and even creating “surge pricing” strategies to further wring money out of the hardcore WWE fan base.”
>”AEW, by contrast, has discussed the financial future but finds it significantly rosier than the WWE. The study reference earlier also showed that the AEW fan base was more educated and generally more financially well-off; able to weather a storm created by financial uncertainty at home and abroad. In addition, AEW has formed a strong partnership with NJPW (the top Japanese wrestling promotion) in case the dollar drops in value compared to the yen. There has been discussion of moving AEW filming to Japan, if economic conditions in the US reach 3rd world conditions as some forecast.”
>”No matter how you slice it or however you fall on the political spectrum, one thing is sure. WWE thrived but did little to prepare for an uncertain future, while AEW has constantly been shoring itself up to prepare for whatever comes ahead.”
