>>16698180Colleges and universities used to be segregated. Their were White-only privately-funded colleges, and also taxpayer-funded state-affiliated public colleges and universities. In the early 20th Century, some rich White people and a few Blacks started forming private Black-only colleges. After segregation was declared unconstitutional (because the Constitution guarantees equal protection, and it was argued that people would be unequal if their were racial regulations on admission), all of the White-only colleges and universities began to admit students of every race. However, Black-only colleges and universities were allowed to continue to discriminate, and now receive public funding, despite being private institutions. Basically, Black people are allowed to have Black-only schools still, but Whites are not allowed to have White-only schools.
