I stopped watching WWE weekly events after AEW debuted. Since then I had only been watching the major PPVs and almost none of the weekly shows. I've been watching AEW since its debut. I have missed a few shows here and there but I consider myself a regular viewer
I decided to tune into the Netflix debut of Raw just like many people did. I noticed quite a few differences. I figured it might be interesting to list them down and discuss
WWE's presentation makes wrestlers look larger than life. This applies to wrestlers I'm unfamiliar with, e.g. Solo Sikoa. This is quite a big contrast to AEW imo. Not many wrestlers in AEW look like major stars aside from Kenny, Ospreay and maybe MJF and Hangman. I like Darby, for example, but he doesn't have the presentation that anybody on the Netflix debut card did
WWE commentary and promos often come across too unauthentic. I thought the bad commentary was Vince's fault but I still caught Michael Cole yelling at inappropriate moments during a match and it just feels like they're always trying to sell me something. I'm already watching Netflix, how many times do you have to tell me that this is on Netflix?
I complain sometimes about everyone trying to have 5 star matches on AEW shows and how exhausting that can be. But the pacing of WWE matches felt really tedious on the Netflix debut show. This reminds me of why I was so much more drawn to NXT ten years ago, just to watch something different
WWE's recaps are good for casual viewers. They really helped me catch up on what's going on. I'm sure they are too long for regular viewers though. I think AEW can find a good balance and introduce more recaps and video packages
Anyways, curious if any of you have any thoughts on this?
