Because somewhere along the line the cesspit of the worst of the WWWEonlys (not a bad type of wrestling fan, mind you) that is SCJerk started treating this board as a second home. He's done an admirable job taking Vince's place as the main villain of the professional wrestling. Everyone hates him, ridicules him endlessly yet we'd all be lost without him. That applies to fans AND wrestlers alike. Tony Khan is secretly the hero of every professional wrestler today. Without him they'd all be making less money. It's weird how 2 of his biggest haters in Punk and Jim admit he's a nice guy, but fans online act like he's the enemy of wrestling or something. Yeah you don't have to lick his ass just because he's a nice guy, but wouldn't you want more guys like this in the business? If Jim's wife died tomorrow, Tony would probably make the biggest donation to the inevitable GoFundMe. I don't think we should be nice to the guy and not criticise his booking just because he's a nice bloke, but I do think we should be grateful he's changed the business and got guys paid and given them a platform to grow and develop. I can't see a wrestling business where Cody becomes a huge star, Punk comes back and guys like Pillman Jr and Ethan Page actually get opportunities with WWE without AEW. The business is healthier with AEW in it. For me it got me excited about wrestling again and if it was to go away I'd probably still watch some parts of WWE and TNA, but I wouldn't be as invested as I am now

And if I was a wrestler I would be Tony's best friend because why wouldn't you want to be in the good books of a mark billionaire?

Remember when you were a kid and you went to another kid's house but he would not let you touch his toys, you could only watch him play. That's what it feels to watch AEW. Tony is a kid who plays with his toys and doesn't care what the fans want. AEW is not a business or a wrestling fed, it's just Tony playing with his toys.

"Saved" might be a strong word considering that WWE and NJPW would have been fine. But a lot of promotions wouldn't have made it through COVID if Tony didn't pump a billion dollars into the industry. Having AEW around makes every wrestler and promotion more money. Just like how WWE's recent growth is helping the rest of the business now. It's not an accident that TNA is actually growing for the first time in years. More people are watching and talking about wrestling now than there was a decade ago.

Tony isn't really an on screen character yet somehow you can feel his presence throughout the shows. It almost like you can hear him cheering on all those indie midgets and Mexican shitters that no one else wants to see. When we see the horrible shit they do everyone remembers the man behind it.
