GCW was literally the only wrestling company on earth hyping up the hammerstien ballroom even AEW just ran there and they never talked about it being like their biggest shows of all time or this grand building or a gigantic thing for them to run there. It’s literally just been GCW making a big deal out of this arena for years now and suddenly it’s no longer a cool arena because they can’t figure out how to have a good show in it lol.

I think the indies are basically dead forever. They'll always exist in the way of having schlubby shitters and washed up old guys wrestling in front of 20 people, but I don't think we're even going to go back to the 90s or 00s when it was an actual legitimate alternative to mainstream wrestling.

Find me one show where JBL didn’t make fun of the arena for being a piece of shit down the street from The Garden. You’re likely thinking the Manhattan Center which is in the same building, but is not the Hammerstein Ballroom, WWE has never done a single none ECW show from the Hammerstein. Prior to AEW the biggest thing to run Hammerstein in almost two decades was ROH.

Exactly, ECW tributes were JBL shit on the building and then WWECW. Also my comment was present tense. How an arena is perceived in 2006 does not dictate how it’s perceived in 2025. If that was true Pontiac Silverdome would still exist.

It’s actually kind of funny because GCW is desperately trying to grab on to the very minimal history WWE has(3 shows, one fucking terrible with change the channel chants) as well as ECW(2 shows, long past the peak of ECW, the shows were in 2000) and act like they ran some building of grand wrestling history, twice, and now that it’s gone bad both times it’s the arenas fault.

Actually ECW ran 4, but yeah, it’s basically just the ROH building. It was big the first time simply because 1k or more fans is big for an indie. The second one people just wanted to see how bad it’ll be after GCW crashed out, gave away hundreds of tickets etc. I think GCW genuinely isn’t meant to have big shows. It spook Brett into being 10x more retarded than usual. Like he gets performance anxiety if the show gets too big.
