This is normal for top workers on cagematch. I know seething edrones think everyone but their favorite gets 10s across the board but that's not the case.

He was good but I think a lot of the credit he gets comes from being viewed through the lens of nostalgia

Not to disagree with your overall premise, but Akira Hokuto has 10 9+ matches and no < 8s in her rating.

Lots of great workers that defined their generation have few or no 9s on cagematch. Nagata has one right now and Kojima has two. There's huge inflation for certain smark favorites but scores outside of AEW/late 2010s NJPW/current WWE are generally more reasonable.

I'm admittedly lightly trolling here but this is a good take.
People often don't realize that 4 is satisfactory and anything over 4 is supposed to be considered pretty decent.
I think there's a lot of value in the site and kind of wish more people were adding their takes to stuff. More votes means ratings that are more reflective of the average opinion.
