When Tony Khan runs a promotion, he gets made fun of but at least generates morbid interest and TV deals

When Cornette ran a promotion, he ended up going out of business in a couple of years because he couldn't draw a single dime or make anyone interested except a few rednecks

I'm both an AEW fan and someone who enjoys Corny's takes even if I disagree with him most of the time.

Corny's biggest problem is that he believes wrestling should arbitrarily go back to a single point in time when he was at his most relevant, hit the pause button, and never change or evolve past that point.

Batista flat out said Cornette stunted his growth as a performer, only Evolution saved him

Cena was about to be fired until he changed his gimmick from the retarded one Cornette gave him

Lesnar basically got himself over due to how much of a freak he looked like, he didn't do any character work with Cornette

Orton was non existant until Evolution picked him up aswell

Evolution basically saved 50% of that class

Cornette taught them to learn and adapt and that's what they did. Batista now that he's more mature and no longer getting a check from the people Cornette shit on now loves his time in OVW.

Ill hit you up on this, cornette seems to want all wrestling to be the arena or studio wrestling when its moved on well past what even he knew about tv due to just normal changes that will happen in any long running medium. The crowd will not respond to some things as well as they do other things. But he just sees these changes instead of kind of adapting to them. The only thing i completely agree with him on is deathmatch stuff. I dont get it, i can enjoy fmw and some others but as a whole its just a poor choice of expression in wrestling.

You don't understand the power of a match the engages the audience on an emotional level. Like when I think of a good match of think of ones where I find myself actually rooting for one of the contestants and I'm devastated by their setbacks and elated by their triumphs. You on the other hand think a good match is where they do increasingly convoluted moves without even trying to hide the obvious cooperating, and then kick out of those moves, mostly at 2 but sometimes at 1.

I'm in my late 40s and grew up on NWA/WCW. I know good wrestling from bad. The whole reason I could never get into WWF is because despite having great production values, it was always cartoonish, larger than life characters trading headlocks and restholds while the actual wrestling took a backseat to "the worm,"the stinkface," "whatever the sock puppet cobra was" and "the people's elbow." Speaking of convoluted and not even trying to hide the obvious cooperating.

The headlocks and restholds kind of match is considered too slow and boring now. Personally i prefer the brawling/power moves style of the attitude era + ruthless aggression, at least it actually looks like they're trying to hurt eachother and at a good pace. The new flippy + false finishes style of match is shit tier, makes everything look so choreographed

One of the more interesting tidbits about Cornette and Smoky Mountain Wresting is that he got a lot of the money to run it from record producer Rick Rubin. I think that goes to show that Cornette was at least able to convince someone else of his vision of the product. The dog wanker can’t even convince his own employees to be professional and stop leaking shit to dirtsheets and not constantly have shoot fist fights with one another backstage. Everyone that’s in AEW is there strictly for a paycheck. There isn’t a single person there that wouldn’t take a matching contract if offered one anywhere else.
