I was there. I was 13. Pop in the arena was huge (although the pop for Deadman Undertaker's return tease when the lights went out was even bigger). This was right after he moved to Raw after having his Stone Cold/Bret Hart moment with Lesnar when Lesnar put him in a crazy submission and Benoit lost consciousness rather than gave up.

The Backlash rematch from WMXX was kino as shit. Benoit had entertaining matches in all his defenses. Then he lost the title at Summerslam to Orton, who was 24 at the time and they wanted someone to beat Brock's record as youngest champion (he was 25) because he just quit and he and Vince hated each other. Nice little 6-month title reign without any retarded storylines.

Also I thought it made no sense for him to insert into the hhh hbk feud especially after his long story on smackdown and more especially because I was a huge Shawn mark at the time. But looking back the triple threat was kino especially with the smarky msg audience all rooting for Benoit.
