>Both Royal Rumble matches last night went through “massive” rewrites over the weekend, with several different winners being floated for both matches. Jey’s win was set in stone about a month ago, but HHH objected to it and wanted Kevin Owens. That was overruled, so Owens had the injury spot booked. HHH then wanted Cena to win, but was overruled by the Rock and TKO management.
>For the women’s match, both Becky Lynch and Madusa were going to compete but came down with an illness this week and weren’t cleared. Alexa Bliss was always planned, despite some rumors online. HHH was completely behind Charlotte, although the original match was supposed to end with Becky and Charlotte facing off. Jade Cargill was also discussed at one point as being the in final four, but several in management vetoed this for unknown reasons.
>At various times over the last week the Men’s Rumble was also planned to feature Omos, Ethan Page, Nick Nemeth, and Johnny Knoxville but each of these fell through for various reasons. Some online noted that the Rumble had a lot of “dead spots” where stars looked confused and had to reset for new spots. That’s because much of the match was being booked Sunday evening and it was a challenge for many of the talent to remember the new match layout.
