I think Hogan probably realized this wasn't a flash in the pan guy but someone who would consistently be at the top of the card threatening his spot (in the early 90s, anyway)
When he was selling for one of the giant monsters he always fueded with he knew it'd be a new monster the next month so he didn't have to worry about losing his spot
