I never read his books but I did just listen to the Stone Cold podcast with him. Austin is trying to relate to the guy and get him to, I don’t know, really give him some personal insight into the Shawn stuff. Austin admits to him multiple times he worked himself into a shoot over putting Brock over. That he thought it was dumb to not build it but taking his ball and going home was wrong in the long run and a terrible way to do business. He asks Bret point blank and very sincerely if he too worked himself into a shoot about Shawn, really tries to get him to open up and consider it. Bret tells him
