If Tony is taking in more now with his deal + ticket sales than he is paying his talent + booking the now smaller arenas, he's profitable, that's it. It may or may not have been a good investment for the stakeholders, but he's currently profitable.
And people always seem to forget, he had a deal before this. The original argument was that he'd never get a deal that covered all of his costs with profit left on the table. He got that deal. But he had revenue before that, he wasn't losing their entire operating budget every year. AEW now basically operates as an employee of WBD, they will be profitable until WBD decides not to renew at which point they will immediately lose TV and die, shedding all operating costs but outstanding debt. Tony and Shad have their Golden Parachute set up and people don't even seem to notice.
