Cody started out as a nice happy babyface but over the year as champ he's gotten increasingly ruthless to keep the belt or if he feels people have wronged him. He's conflicted because, like Punk said to him a week ago, he realizes he may be changing because heavy is the head that wears the crown
So here comes Rock, promising him everything he could ever want if he compromises on his morals, which is something Cody already feels he's toeing the line with

Wait, they didn't do that and have an actually intriguing storyline everyone wants to see the culmination of, Cody still has countless big feuds to do, and things actually develop over time instead of the same shit until the wheels fall off.

Even Seth came out on top of the last Rock feud. The story is all about Cody, Rock is an antagonist to him and everyone is waiting to see what Cody does. Nobody's waiting for a Rock match or promo unless it involves Cody, and that's not even knocking Rock, the Cody story is just so flexible and works with so many people and he has unreal chemistry with Rock.
