I actually really enjoyed his NJPW run. He looked way better without the beard for whatever that's worth. That said he was a heel for the peak of it while he was champion which isn't exactly conducive to getting babyface pops

Didn't his wife/fiance/partner/gf have cancer? Makes sense to put your career on the backburner and still take make a big amount of money if you can.
