Like it sucks but it wasn't the wrong thing to do, all the wrong turns and mistakes were made in the months and years leading up to this.

You're not supposed to celebrate when a wrestler turns heel. You're not supposed to be happy or excited. You're supposed to be angry and sympathize with the babyface. Objectively speaking, the angle was a failure but most people want Cena to win the 17th title rather than Cody continuing his boring reign.

Because WWE's live audience is full of 35+ who have seen everything before and kids have no attachment to Cena who hasn't been around regularly since 2015. To make the angle meaningful they need to explore Rock's motivation, blur the lines with reality more. Is he obsessed with his "brand"? Is he part of a Hollywood cabal? There needs to be more explanation and he needs to be more creepy

Yep. Cena's heel turn is already overrated as fuck. It was pure slop, nothing else. Mariah May turning heel on Toni Storm was far better, much more iconic.
