I thought this was still when every rap album was built off of unlicensed samples. This song alone has 4 other samples. Perhaps Lou Reed and his people were among those that got in early with legal action, but when did they find out about the song? If they found out before it was released and complained, then likely it just wouldn't have ever been released. The sample helped in small part to get the group known, ticket and merch sales, etc. They technically made at least something from it. Mark Wahlberg has a song called "Wildside" even more based off of it.
