Everyone knows that Bryan is leaps above Batista in-ring, but he's also better in terms of character work. His run with Kane, his run with the Wyatt family, the yes movement and the eco-friendly champion gimmick were all great. Meanwhile Batista had no character. He was always just "guy who wrestles" and nothing more.

Bryan winning was WWE's last great moment until the Cena heel turn. It was best for business. Imagine if Batista won after being shoehorned in to the Wrestlemania program and Bryan lost after all that build? People would've dropped WWE in droves overnight.
