Love this dude.
Love watching his early career as a monster tag team guy mostly, but he was based even when he was too beaten up to move properly anymore.
I was loving his DDT run, he was about to challenge Takeshita for the KO-D title when he got paralysed by a sunset flip. I was so hyped for that match. Takayama and Danshoku Dieno's tag run was so good, it was taken away from us.
Also he's fun in that Sion Sono movie "Tokyo Tribe", which is a Japanese rap-musical.

Based. I read the manga years before the film, Sono made a complete batshit adaptation of it, one of the craziest live-action adaptations I've ever seen. Very carnivalesque and very Sono-esque. I like how Sono gave Inoue Santa, the mangaka, a role in it.

Yeah, they revived No Fear. It was the classic Dieno angle where the big man is scared of Dieno because he doesn't want to get molested so there was a long strong of shows where Takayama was running from Dieno until they finally faced off and Takayama embraced his sexuality and they became an unstoppable team. The tag run didn't get to go far, Takayama got mega over despite being barely mobile because of Dieno's antics but Yasu Urano's devastating sunset flip took it all away from us. You should be able to find it on WU, maybe find the dates of the shows on cagematch I guess.

Very well-said. I generally dislike films based on manga, but if they're made by guys like Sono Sion and Miike Takashi, I know for sure they're gonna be something unique. Only a great auteur like Sono would make a great story like Tokyo Tribe a different experience that is as impactful as the original. Gotta appreciate a capable filmmaker who loves to add his own trademarks to things.

He was taking the move. Yasu Urano was doing it. Urano had just graduated from/left DDT's active roster as well so they couldn't do much with it after. Takayama had just cashed in a title shit for the next big show Vs Takeshita and so Urano got the shot instead and no one wanted to see that. I remember being massively upset about it.

Absolutely. Miike is a bit more hit and miss (mostly miss) but he's always trying something crazy and I have to respect him. Sono is my favourite director, he can do anything. It looks like he won't be making another film ever again and that's depressing, but everything he made rules (probably, I haven't seen the Nic Cage one).

Takayama is definitely one of the true GOATS to come out of Japan. I really don’t understand how people can watch his matches and not become fans instantly. Dude was strong as fuck, stuffed HARD, and still put guys over. To take a beating like that from Don Frye and still maintain being a fucking bad ass is nothing short of incredible.
