>>17178208It's just a way for developers to charge more for a "full" game. Nobody would buy it if there was only one version that cost $100-$150 at launch. They strip out some what would be considered "extras" and charge less for the "base" game. It's up to the consumer to decide if the "extras" are important enough to them to justify the added cost.
Thin about it like buying a new car. You get the "base" model for the cheapest price but, if you want a good sound system, bigger tires or nicer seats and stuff, you by the "premium" model.
Are some devs sleazy about it? Absolutely!
As long as game devs release a working product at launch, then anything you buy after that is your decision. Not doing so would be the equivalent of Ford releasing a new car that required you to buy tires for it after you got it home.
